Cyber Safety Tips

Social Media ROCKS but cyberbullying can make you feel hurt, angry, helpless, isolated, even suicidal, or lead to problems such as depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem SO it's really easy peasy but really important to keep yourself and others safe.

Children have the right to be protected from being hurt and mistreated, physically or mentally, they have a right to privacy. We all share a collective responsibility to guarantee these rights are enforced.

  • simply don't respond to negative & nasty messages
  • never share passwords
  • don't open strangers' messages
  • show an adult who can help

Every message/txt/post you send leaves a permanent digital footprint so take a second to decide "will I regret this"? "is this kind/helpful"?...  it’s so easy 2 get caught up in the moment & write or do something that may seem hilarious at the time. But remember, what u say can really hurt someone, or come back 2 HAUNT u.

It only takes a sec or 2. Ask yourself if u really should say it... think about whether or not u mind if your friends, whanau or teachers hear about it later.
